• Start early – The best places get taken quickly, especially near universities like USYD, UTS, and UNSW.
• Check multiple platforms – UniLodge, Flatmates.com.au, Gumtree, and even Facebook groups often have listings.
• Consider student-friendly suburbs – Ultimo, Newtown, Kensington, Glebe, and Marrickville are great options with good transport links.
• Inspect before you sign – Photos can be misleading, so if possible, visit in person or ask for a live video tour.
• Budget for bills – Some rentals include utilities, others don’t—factor that into your budget.

Finding the right place takes time, but once you have a safe, comfortable home base, adjusting to uni life in Sydney becomes so much easier.
