Pokemon GO Players Frustrated with Legendary Heroes Event’s Focus on Trading Challenges
Some Pokémon GO players have recently taken to social media to express their frustration with the ongoing Legendary Heroes event, specifically voicing their dissatisfaction with the trading challenges included in the promotion. The Legendary Heroes event began in Pokémon GO on Thursday, September 26, and requires players to choose between two paths inspired by Pokémon Sword and Shield. Each path comes with its own set of catch and trade challenges.
A vocal segment of the game's community has criticized the trading aspect, arguing that Niantic is putting too much emphasis on trading in recent events. Reddit user SpazsAvatar shared their concerns in a recent post, noting, "They've been requiring trades more often," and urging Niantic to "please stop doing this." The complaint was particularly focused on the Shield Path Trade Collection Challenge, which requires players to acquire Swirlix, Gothita, Seedot, and Scraggy through trading. Since Pokémon GO does not support remote trading, this poses a significant challenge for rural players or those who live in areas with fewer active players."I am now completely cut off from doing any of this research because Niantic for some reason thinks we all have tons of close friends or family that play with us," SpazsAvatar explained.
Their post quickly gained traction, earning over 3,000 upvotes and making it to the front page of the game's largest subreddit in late September 2024, indicating that many Pokémon GO players share similar frustrations. It seems unlikely that Niantic will respond to these complaints. While player feedback occasionally leads to changes in Pokémon GO, the game has always been designed as a social experience, and emphasizing trading aligns with this philosophy. This might also explain why remote trading has yet to be implemented, despite years of requests from fans. Calls for this feature grew louder during the pandemic when Niantic introduced some adjustments to make the game more accessible, such as remote raids, increased interaction distances, and specialized events.
